Abstract

David Rasmussen, Ph.D. shares his thoughts about forecasting the near-term evolution of viruses such as influenza and SARS-CoV-2.

David Rasmussen joined NC State as a member of the Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security cluster in January 2018. He studied Biology at Reed College and received a Ph.D. in Biology from Duke University. He then did his postdoctoral training in Switzerland at ETH Zurich. At NC State, his research group develops new methods for studying the epidemiology and evolution of infectious diseases using pathogen genomic data and phylogenetics. While David’s previous work focused on human viruses such as influenza and HIV, he is now applying the tools of molecular epidemiology to better understand the spread and emergence of agricultural pathogens, especially plant viruses.
