ABSTRACT

Parks and greenspaces are key to supporting a happier and healthier population, yet many people don't realize the unique health benefits that nature can provide. Learn how researchers at NC State are exploring connections between nature and human health, and discover ways that you can be part of this natural solution.

J. Aaron Hipp, Ph.D., is a university faculty scholar; professor of community health and sustainability in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management (College of Natural Resources); and associate director of social and behavioral science applications in the Center for Geospatial Analytics. His research focuses on equitable access and spaces to be active with specific attention on natural environments and measurement development. Dr. Hipp currently instructs courses on nature and wellness and evidence-based decision making. He serves on the steering committee for the National Physical Activity Plan and is an interdisciplinary research leader with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Lincoln Larson, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management in the College of Natural Resources at NC State. He has earned degrees in biology (B.S., Duke University), forest resources (M.S., University of Georgia) and natural resources recreation and tourism (Ph.D., University of Georgia). Before coming to NC State, Dr. Larson worked at Clemson University and Cornell University. Dr. Larson’s research and teaching focus on promoting positive interactions between people and the natural environment, and he has worked with diverse partners across many disciplines to publish more than 100 journal articles about a wide variety of natural resource management issues. He is particularly interested in exploring links between parks, greenspace and human health and well-being.
